Week 4

This week we talked about color and the value that color can have within a space. Our guest speaker brought up some very interesting knowledge about color. I think I took away the contents of pigment. Especially how they would have made different pigments before Morden materials. All pigments were made up of natural ingredients, but I was amazed what they would have actually used within the color. When you really think about it those materials were truly few and far between. Not even thinking about the labor it would have taken to obtain all the materials to create these vibrant colors.
Color truly effects an individual too, it effects the way you react and respond in spaces and how you interact with the spaces created. Over this past weekend I have been Dog sitting. It is a unique job that allows me to spend time in other people's spaces that they have created and designed themselves. This weekend the home I spent time in was very minimalistic, it didn't have much color in the space. The color that did inhabit the space however, had lots of impact on the feeling and emotion of the room. For example, the front door has this multi color stain glass panel in the top quarter of the door. This feels warm yet elegant and introduces you to the space.
A different house that I've stayed in had lots of red velvet, not something that I personally would pick however when meeting with the woman that lived there you would realize that she connected with the red. She was very proper and old fashioned. She had a value for the older things and less from the modern step. I love getting to spend time in people's spaces in this town. It helps me understand personal style, culture, and intention in a space.
This week in Sketching Interiors we went over the perception of light and shadow. I found this chapter to be very interesting, value, light, and shadow is extremely important to a space and conveying what is within a space. I found it fun to explore with cross hatching and try different things to get the result I wanted.

Anna,
ReplyDeleteThese are great sketches! You are very talented in this area. I loved your summary this week and how you are having the chance- through dog sitting to see other's interiors. I like how you described each person too! 25/25 points
